We got an early start today so that we could head to the Baths on Virgin Gorda
The Baths is an area of eroded granite boulders that make for hours and hours of fun. There are also a couple of nice beaches and a hiking trail. Students enjoyed their time at the Baths, and then we headed to the Moorings with the other SeaTrek boats so we could have some shore time, reprovision, and enjoy a real shower. Then students learned about and practiced their coral monitoring methodology to prepare for the dives we would be doing the next couple of days at Jost Van Dyke. For our evening activity our first guest lecturer, Marcia Taylor, from the University of the Virgin Islands talked to us about the variety of research, education and marine resource management projects she conducts throughout the Virgin Islands. It was really interesting to see the data and research being applied to find and implement conservation strategies and better management practices. We can’t wait to learn more from Marcia tomorrow during our dives
