Biologist’s Log – July 1, 2013
We woke up in Leverick Bay, topped off the water tanks and headed for Vixen Point in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda (continued…)
There we enjoyed some shore time and beach games with the other main program boats. We had a nice game of flag football and volleyball going. After lunch we arrived at a dive site called Coral Gardens on Great Dog Island. In addition to some nice corals and numerous fish, there is an old plane wreck in about 40 feet of water. As part of their Heritage Awareness Specialty course, students were given a few short tasks, including a sketch/description of the site, to complete during their dive. After the dive we headed back to Monkey Point, Guana Island, where we spent the night. Before dinner, students swam ashore and enjoyed some water time. Captain Chance then gave a tutorial on safe diving practices and dive tables. For our evening presentation we discussed marine science careers and watched a video about the Sea of Cortez. And yet again, in the blink of an eye….it was time for bed.
