What a great day full of island fun! We finished up the field portion of our introduction to scientific diver specialty course with an awesome wall dive called Mound 117 near Jost Van Dyke
Students focused on identifying and recording fish species. It was clear that they had all improved their SCUBA and monitoring skills, and they surprised themselves with how many of the reef creatures they could identify. Then we did some sailing and headed to Great Harbor, Jost Van Dyke to pick up our second guest lecturer, Dr. Bob Godfrey. He is the Director of the University of the Virgin Islands’ Agriculture Experiment Station on St. Croix. We finished up the afternoon with some recreation time and before we knew it, it was dinner time. Afterwards, Dr. Bob talked to us about his research and what it’s like to be a real scientist and making a living doing something you truly love. What an inspiration for the students!
