Day 18 / July 3 – Today we enjoyed some time sailing and just hanging out on our floating home, Outta Space. Then we spent some time working on our marine science project outlines and preparing for our course exam, which would be administered after dinner. We headed back to Jost Van Dyke for some recreation time at the Bubbly Pool Trail on East End. It was a short hike that took us through all of the coastal ecosystems we had been learning about, including sandy beach, mangrove, seagrass, salt pond, and rocky intertidal. Then it was time to meet up with the other boats at Harris’s Place in Little Harbour where we enjoyed a local family style dinner prepared by our good friend Cynthia and her crew. After our fill of island style bbq, smoothies, and pies/cake, we enjoyed presentations by our students who did academic credit projects, took our dive specialty course exam, and stayed for the night. Only one more full day out on the water – where did the time go!? Even though the time has passed quickly, we’ve gotten so much accomplished and have learned a great deal. Here’s to another great day!
